Atalanta vs AC Milan – Match preview and team news

Atalanta remain the only unbeaten side in the Italian top flight, while the Rossoneri arrive in Bergamo looking to bounce back from a frustrating draw against Pisa.

Atalanta vs AC Milan – Match preview and team news

  • Date: Tuesday, 28th October.
  • Kick-off: 8:45pm BST.
  • Venue: New Balance Arena, Bergamot.

Atalanta team news

Ivan Juric’s side has shown impressive resilience this season, remaining undefeated through eight matches. However, their inability to convert draws into victories has proven costly, with six fixtures ending all square. The Bergamo outfit continues adjusting to life without legendary manager Gian Piero Gasperini.

Juric’s injury concerns are easing ahead of this fixture. Giorgio Scalvini has returned to full training after recovering from knee surgery and is available. Gianluca Scamacca is also back, providing a significant boost to Atalanta’s attack.

The absences remain limited to defensive areas. Full-backs Mitchel Bakker and Sead Kolasinac stay sidelined with long-term cruciate ligament injuries.

AC Milan team news

Massimiliano Allegri’s men will be without several key players. Christian Pulisic remains sidelined with a hamstring injury and will miss his fifth consecutive match. The American won’t return until after the international break.

Adrien Rabiot continues recovering from a calf muscle lesion and is expected to be out for another week. There is cautious optimism surrounding Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Pervis Estupinan, both being assessed. Loftus-Cheek deals with muscle fatigue, whilst Estupinan nurses an ankle problem.

Ardon Jashari has been out since early August, and this match comes too soon for him to be fit. Rafael Leao has been in exceptional form, scoring four goals in five appearances, including consecutive home strikes. The Portuguese winger will be crucial to Milan’s threat.

Form

Atalanta

Their recent outing saw them battle to a 1-1 draw at Cremonese, with Marco Brescianini’s late strike cancelling out Jamie Vardy’s opener.

Ivan Juric has implemented tactics similar to mentor Gasperini, favouring man-marking and high-intensity pressing. However, late goals have proven problematic, with four of six conceded coming in the final 15 minutes.

Despite their unbeaten record, Atalanta’s attacking struggles have been evident throughout October, managing just two goals in four fixtures. Ademola Lookman has yet to find the net since his summer return, while Nikola Krstovic and Charles De Ketelaere have also struggled.

AC Milan

Milan’s impressive eight-match unbeaten run was nearly derailed by struggling Pisa. Zachary Athekame’s stunning 93rd-minute strike salvaged a 2-2 draw.

Allegri’s side has demonstrated resilience since his return, maintaining defensive discipline whilst offering counter-attacking threat. The Rossoneri remain unbeaten away, winning two and drawing one whilst keeping three consecutive clean sheets on the road.

Predicted lineups

Atalanta: Carnesecchi; Djimsiti, Hien, De Roon; Bellanova, Ederson, Pasalic, Zalewski; De Ketelaere, Lookman; Krstovislc.

AC Milan: Maignan; Tomori, Gabbia, Pavlovic; Saelemaekers, Fofana, Modric, Ricci, Bartesaghi; Leao, Gimenez.
