Estonia will host Italy at the A. Le Coq Arena in Tallinn on Saturday, October 11th, with the Azzurri aiming to secure another vital win in their 2026 World Cup qualifying journey.
Currently positioned second in Group I, Italy has accumulated nine points from four games, trailing leaders Norway by six points but possessing an extra match, making this encounter key for their hopes of direct qualification.
Italy team news
Injury issues have led to adjustments in Gennaro Gattuso’s squad, with Matteo Politano and Mattia Zaccagni both withdrawing from the initial 27-man roster. Politano exited early in Napoli’s 2-1 win against Genoa, while Zaccagni’s absence paved the way for Roberto Piccoli’s debut call-up.
Leonardo Spinazzola makes his return to the Italian lineup after a lengthy absence since September 2023, stepping in to replace the injured Politano. The seasoned wingback from Napoli boosts the team’s attacking depth.
Matteo Gabbia and Bryan Cristante have also been recalled after lengthy spells away from the national team setup; Gabbia last represented Italy in October of the previous year, and Cristante hasn’t featured since June 2024.
Adding new talent to the squad are Fiorentina’s Hans Nicolussi Caviglia and Bologna’s Nicolò Cambiaghi, both receiving their first senior team call-ups.
The forward duo of Moise Kean and Mateo Retegui, who combined for three goals in the previous meeting, are expected to retain their starting roles.
