Newcastle United continue their pre-season preparations with a friendly against Atlético Madrid at St James’ Park on Saturday.
Eddie Howe’s side will be keen to give home supporters something to cheer about following a miserable summer in which they have missed out on a number of transfer targets and won just one game.
Diego Simeone’s Rojiblancos need to build momentum ahead of LaLiga’s return after they crashed out of the FIFA Club World Cup in the group stages.
Newcastle United vs Atletico Madrid predicted lineups and team news
Newcastle team news
Alexander Isak remains unavailable for selection as he continues to push for a move amid interest from Liverpool and is training separately from the squad.
Joseph Willock (hamstring) is also sidelined and will miss out once again. Eddie Howe could hand a first start to summer signing Anthony Elanga, who arrives from Nottingham Forest after a solid Championship campaign.
Elsewhere, the Magpies’ back-line will be without star centre-back Jamaal Lascelles (ankle), giving Sven Botman and Fabian Schär a chance to cement their partnership.

Atletico Madrid team news
Atletico arrive with a near-fully fit squad, having resolved minor knocks to Marcos Llorente (thigh) and Yannick Carrasco (calf) in training.
New summer recruit Clement Lenglet is expected to make his debut after completing his move from Barcelona. Diego Simeone has confirmed that Giacomo Raspadori will not be available as the Italian finalises his transfer from Napoli.
Atleti’s strength in depth means Simeone could rotate heavily, but key men Jan Oblak, Koke and Julián Álvarez will feature prominently.
