Liverpool player Diogo Jota has died aged 28 following a car accident in Spain.
Spanish newspaper MARCA first reported that the forward and his brother, Andre, perished after the vehicle came off the road and burst into flames. The 26-year-old was also a professional footballer with Portuguese second division side Penafiel.
The incident happened on the A-52 near the city of Zaragoza close to Spain’s north-west border with Portugal.

The BBC report that the Guardia Civil have confirmed that Jota and his brother died at about 00:30 local time on Thursday. Their Lamborghini “left the road due to a tyre blow-out while overtaking another vehicle and then caught fire”.
Jota married his fiancé, Rute Cardoso, in Porto on 22 June. The footballer is a father to three young children.

He enjoyed recent success on the pitch with both club and country, helping Liverpool win the Premier League title before playing for Portugal as they beat Spain in the final of the UEFA Nations League.
