Wolves travel to the Stadium of Light today, desperately needing their first Premier League victory of the season to climb off the bottom of the table.
Although manager Vítor Pereira has been under immense pressure, he has seen signs of progress in his team’s last two performances. While recent draws against Tottenham and Brighton have offered some encouragement, a worrying trend has emerged: conceding late goals and failing to hold onto a lead.
In fact, Wolves have taken the lead in their last three league games but failed to win any of them. Furthermore, they face a historically tough trip to a ground where they have won just once in their last ten league visits. Consequently, this match represents a huge test of their character.
Wolves team news
Vítor Pereira’s team selection is complicated by several fitness issues. For instance, key attacker Hwang Hee-chan (minor injury) and midfielder Jean-Ricner Bellegarde (illness) are both major doubts for the trip to Sunderland. On top of that, striker Jorgen Strand Larsen is still managing a recurring Achilles problem, although he is pushing to be involved.
There is better news elsewhere, however. Toti Gomes is available again after recovering from illness. Additionally, Matt Doherty is back in contention after recovering from wrist surgery. Despite the personnel issues, the manager is expected to stick with the back-four system that has brought recent improvement.
Wolves predicted lineup
Wolves predicted XI: Johnstone; Tchatchoua, S. Bueno, Krejčí, H. Bueno; Munetsi, André, J. Gomes; Arias, Strand Larsen, Hwang
