Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is interested in taking Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez to the Emirates this summer.
Mahrez released a statement last week stating that he believed it was time to leave the former Premier League Champions after a more down to earth season.
Wenger is loooking to strengthen his squad this summer in the hope of making a push for the Premier League title, after signing a two-yer contract extension at the club earlier this week.
Speaking to beIn sports, Wenger confirmed his interest in the player, but denied a bid had already been made:
“Have we made a bid for him? No. Not yet. Not yet means it could happen, it could not happen,
“I think he had a huge impact at Leicester when they won the championship, like everybody else.
“It’s been a different season this year but it doesn’t take anything away from his qualities.”
According to the Leicester Mercury, the deal to take Mahrez to the Emirates could be worth around £50million. That cash could from the sale of Alexis Sanchez, who is being linked with a move away from the Emirates following the failure to qualify for the Champions League.
Mahrez joined Leicester from French club Le Havre for a around £400,000 in 2014 and was voted PFA Player of the Year in 2016 on the way to claiming the Premier League in 2016.
