Tottenham Hotspur vs Slavia Prague – Match Preview and Team News

Tottenham Hotspur seek to build on a morale-boosting derby victory when they welcome Slavia Prague to North London for Tuesday night’s Champions League clash.

The Lilywhites belatedly returned to winning ways on home soil with a 2-0 victory over Brentford in Saturday’s Premier League London derby. Consequently, this win snapped a five-game winless sequence across all tournaments.

They now face a Czech side still waiting for their first UCL win of the campaign. While Spurs suffered a defensive collapse in a 5-3 loss to Paris Saint-Germain last time out, they remain well-placed in the table. Furthermore, they will be confident of extending their magnificent 22-game unbeaten run in home European matches.

Team News

Tottenham Hotspur

Thomas Frank has been forced into a defensive reshuffle following the news that left-back Destiny Udogie sustained a soft tissue injury against Brentford. This injury will keep him out until January. Djed Spence is expected to deputise on the left flank in his absence. The injury list remains extensive, with James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Dominic Solanke, Radu Drăgușin, and Yves Bissouma all sidelined. However, Brennan Johnson is rated as “touch and go”.

Slavia Prague

The visitors have been boosted by the return of Slovakian winger Ivan Schranz, who is expected to start in attack alongside Mojmír Chytil and Lukáš Provod. Chytil arrives in red-hot form, having scored braces in back-to-back league games. However, manager Jindřich Trpišovský is without key midfielder Oscar and long-term absentees Filip Horský, Petr Ševčík, and Dominik Javorček.

Form

Tottenham Hotspur

Despite the 5-3 setback in Paris, Spurs have been imperious at home in Europe. They have kept clean sheets in each of their last three home Champions League matches (W2 D1). In fact, they could keep four consecutive home clean sheets for the first time in their history in the competition. Pedro Porro has been instrumental, attempting the most crosses from open play of any full-back in the tournament.

Slavia Prague

Slavia are enduring a torrid continental campaign. They are winless in their last 12 matches in major European competition, their longest drought since 2009. Moreover, they have failed to score in each of their last four Champions League matches. History is not on their side either; Slavia have won only two of their previous 16 games against English sides.

Predicted Lineups

Tottenham Hotspur predicted XI: Vicario; Porro, Danso, Van de Ven, Spence; Palhinha, Bergvall; Kudus, Simons, Odobert; Richarlison

Slavia Prague predicted XI: Staněk; Zima, Holeš, Chaloupek; Douděra, Sadílek, Zafeiris, Bořil; Schranz, Chytil, Provod
