Torino vs AC Milan – Match preview and team news

  • Date: Monday, 8th December.
  • Kick-off: 7:45pm BST.
  • Venue: Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.

Torino team news

Torino manager Marco Baroni faces a selection headache in attack with Giovanni Simeone ruled out due to a lingering muscular injury. The Argentine forward’s absence is a significant blow for a side that has struggled for goals this season, netting just 12 times in 13 league games. There are also concerns over defender Ardian Ismajli, who remains a doubt as he works his way back to full fitness. Per Schuurs and Zanos Savva remain long term absentees.

However, there is positive news in midfield as Ivan Ilic has recovered from his knee problem and is expected to be included in the squad, likely starting from the bench. In the absence of Simeone, Che Adams is set to partner club captain Duvan Zapata upfront.

Zapata will be a key figure for the Granata; the Colombian striker has a strong record in this fixture and Baroni confirmed in his pre-match press conference: “He’s finding his best form day by day”.

AC Milan team news

AC Milan travel to Turin without French midfielder Youssouf Fofana, who is sidelined with an adductor injury. He is joined in the treatment room by Santiago Gimenez (ankle) and Zachary Athekame (calf), who are both unavailable for selection.

Despite these absentees, manager Massimiliano Allegri is expected to recall veteran midfielder Luka Modric and top scorer Christian Pulisic to the starting lineup. Both were used sparingly in the midweek Coppa Italia defeat to Lazio, with Allegri prioritising fresh legs for this league encounter.

“We need to be ready to play a solid game… Torino is a very physical team,” Allegri warned.

Rafael Leao is expected to lead the attack alongside Pulisic, with the Portuguese forward enjoying a central role.

Form

Torino

Torino’s start to the 2025/26 campaign has been underwhelming, leaving them languishing in 13th place. Baroni’s side have failed to win any of their last five Serie A matches, a run that includes painful draws against mid-table opposition and a recent defeat against Lecce (1-2).

AC Milan

AC Milan are sitting third in the table and unbeaten in their last 12 Serie A outings. Allegri’s men have been relentless, keeping seven clean sheets during this period and showcasing the defensive solidity that has become their hallmark.

Although they suffered a 1-0 setback in the Coppa Italia against Lazio last week, their league form remains impressive. The Rossoneri have won eight of their thirteen games so far, and a victory on Monday would see them take the top spot and join Napoli on 31 points.

Allegri remains focused on the long-term objective: “Our goal is clear: next year, Milan must be in the Champions League, by any means.”

Predicted lineups

Torino: Israel; Tameze, Maripan, Coco; Pedersen, Casadei, Asllani, Vlasic, Lazaro; Adams, Zapata.

AC Milan: Maignan; Tomori, Gabbia, Pavlovic; Saelemaekers, Ricci, Modric, Rabiot, Bartesaghi; Pulisic, Leao.
