The most expensive Premier League XI of summer signings

Premier League clubs spent big again this summer with a summer outlay of more than £1.96bn.

Following the deadline for transfer deals, we’ve put together the most expensive Premier League XI from 2024’s summer signings.

The most expensive Premier League XI of summer signings

Goalkeeper: Giorgi Mamardashvili – Liverpool (£29m)

Liverpool moved to safeguard their goalkeeping future after agreeing a deal to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia. The Georgian goalkeeper will link up with Liverpool in 2025 as a long-term replacement for Alisson, having emerged as one of Europe’s best up-and-coming shot-stoppers. The 23-year-old led Euro 2024 for saves and topped La Liga for expected goals prevented in 2023/24.

Centre-back: Leny Yoro – Manchester United (£52m)

Manchester United beat competition from Real Madrid, PSG and Liverpool to land Leny Yoro this summer, securing the signing of the teenage centre-back in a £52m deal. Yoro was named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Season in 2023/24 after impressing as Lille secured Champions League qualification. His debut will be delayed, however, after breaking his foot in pre-season.

Centre-back: Max Kilman – West Ham (£40m)

Julen Lopetegui sought a reunion with Max Kilman this summer, signing the Wolves captain following his appointment as West Ham manager. Only the three relegated teams had a worse defensive record than the Hammers last season and Lopetegui will hope Kilman can be the solution to the club’s soft centre.

Centre-back: Riccardo Calafiori – Arsenal (£42m)

Arsenal have added to their league-leading defence with the capture of Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna. The 22-year-old shone as Bologna upset the odds to secure Champions League qualification last season and caught the eye with his performances for Italy at Euro 2024. Comfortable centrally or at left-back, he improves a formidable Arsenal backline as the Gunners target the title in 2024/25.

Midfield: Manuel Ugarte – Manchester United – £51m

In search of steel for his midfield, Erik ten Hag completed his summer business with the £51m arrival of Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain. The combative Uruguayan was Ligue 1’s leading tackler in 2023/24 and will add bite to a midfield that has been all too open in recent seasons.

Midfield: Amadou Onana – Aston Villa (£50m)

Aston Villa’s marquee recruit of the summer, Unai Emery has bolstered his squad with the £50m signing of Amadou Onana. The Belgium international replaces the departed Douglas Luiz at Villa Park as The Villans prepare to compete in the Champions League this season. After two solid seasons at Everton, there’s a belief that the 22-year-old has more levels to go.

Right-wing: Pedro Neto – Chelsea (£53m)

Chelsea’s bonkers recruitment process has continued this summer with another plethora of new signings. The most expensive is the £53m capture of Pedro Neto from Wolves in a transfer that – like many of the Blues’ business of late – came out of nowhere. Neto can be unstoppable at his best but his injury record will concern. If Chelsea can keep him fit, the sky is the limit.

Left-wing: Joao Felix – Chelsea (£46.3m)

Joao Felix has returned to Chelsea for a second spell after the Blues brought back the former loanee in a £46.3m deal. After spending the past two seasons on loan at Chelsea and Barcelona, Felix has said he is determined to ‘find a home’ after an underwhelming spell at Atletico Madrid. An emphatic goal off the bench on his second Chelsea debut was a fine way to start.

Forward: Dominic Solanke – Spurs (£65m)

Tottenham Hotspur are responsible for the most expensive Premier League signing of the summer so far after signing Dominic Solanke in a deal that could reach a club-record £65m.

Solanke scored 19 league goals in a coming-of-age campaign at Bournemouth in 2023/24, while his pressure from the front appears an ideal fit for Ange Postecoglou’s plan. Spurs failed to sign a direct replacement for Harry Kane last summer and will hope Solanke is the long-term solution at number nine.

Forward: Evanilson – Bournemouth (£40m)

Bournemouth reinvested their record windfall for Solanke with the £40m capture of Evanilson from FC Porto. The 24-year-old, who made his Brazil debut in March, scored 25 goals in all competitions for the Portuguese side last season, including a Champions League hat-trick against Royal Antwerp.
