Erik ten Hag tried to take the positives from defeat to Manchester City on Saturday, but admitted that Man United have “problems” they need to fix ahead of the new season.
Pep Guardiola’s men lifted the Community Shield for the first time in five years after beating the Red Devils on penalties at Wembley.
Bruno Fernandes saw a terrific finish ruled out for offside in the second half, but Alejandro Garnacho did give Man United the lead in the 82nd minute.
Bernardo Silva denied the FA Cup winners victory with less than two minutes of normal time remaining, heading the ball past Andre Onana to send the game to a penalty shootout.

The Portuguese playmaker missed his spot kick, but Man City won the contest nonetheless thanks to misses from Jadon Sancho and Jonny Evans.
“We are disappointed and we have to feel the pain and everyone feels the pain, but also I see some positives and we performed well,” Ten Hag said in his post-match press conference.
Marcus Rashford missed a gilt-edged chance in the second half, his effort bouncing off the inside of the post, but the Dutchman praised the forward’s performance afterwards.
“No, I think he was several times in very good positions, I am very pleased he is getting in those positions. Keep going and keep getting in those positions and he will score goals.”
Asked about transfers, Ten Hag said: “When we have some news then we will announce it and until that point we work with the squad that is available.
“It is clear we have problems and the players have to work to be available and the staff have to work so that the players are available.”
Man United have reportedly agreed two separate deals with Bayern Munich to sign Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui this weekend, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka is expected to leave Old Trafford and join West Ham United.
