Spurs identify Mbeumo alternative as Man Utd make improved bid

Spurs have turned their attention to Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze after Manchester United increased their offer for Bryan Mbeumo.

Multiple reports claim that the Red Devils have submitted a bid worth more than £60 million for the Brentford after their initial offer of £45m plus £10m in add-ons was rejected.

The Bees are open to offers for Mbeumo but The Guardian claim they put a similar value on him to Matheus Cunha, who joined United from Wolves for £62.5m earlier in the summer transfer window.

Mbeumo has just one year left on his contract, but Brentford hold the option to extend it for a further twelve months.

Tottenham Hotspur held initial talks with Brentford over a deal for the 25-year-old earlier this month after appointing Thomas Frank as head coach, but the player wants a move to Old Trafford.

Spurs are instead looking to make a “statement signing” by acquiring Eberechi Eze from Palace ahead of next season, according to The Standard.

The attacking midfielder is believed to have a £68m release clause in his contract, which has “attracted a number of potential suitors” this summer.

Spurs also looked at the possibility of signing Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth, but have been told he will cost around £70m.

The Cherries are “keen not to lose any more key players” after Real Madrid triggered Dean Huijsen’s £50m release clause. They have also agreed to sell Milos Kerkez to Liverpool for £40m, while Kepa Arrizabalaga has returned to Chelsea following the end of his loan spell.
