Slot gives positive update on Jeremie Frimpong injury

Arne Slot has confirmed that Jeremie Frimpong will be out for ‘a few weeks’ but said the Liverpool’s defender’s injury is ‘not as bad’ as first feared.

Frimpong was substituted in the early stages of the 6-0 Champions League win over Qarabag on Wednesday with a hamstring injury.

The issue continues a stop-start debut season for Frimpong at Liverpool and leaves the club light at right-back, following Conor Bradley’s season-ending knee injury.

Speaking ahead of facing Newcastle in the Premier League this week, Slot was positive on Frimpong after medical tests.

“He will definitely not be in the squad tomorrow. He is out for a few weeks but not as bad as we thought, so something positive from something not so positive,” he said at his pre-match press conference.

Liverpool have been linked with signing a right-back to cover the loss of Frimpong and Bradley, with clubs having until Monday to finalise deals. Slot was coy on whether the Reds would enter the transfer market.

“It is that if we think we have a player who can help us and think it is possible, we will do so”.

“They are conversations that don’t take place in this room. If that means it’s likely or unlikely… we will see”.
