Arne Slot has said he is confident in Liverpool’s current options at centre-back when asked if a new defender could arrive before the deadline.
Liverpool are short of depth in central defence, following the sale of Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen earlier in the window. Joe Gomez was also sent home early from the club’s pre-season tour due to injury, leaving Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk as the only senior options.

Liverpool have been linked with a move to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, but are reluctant to meet the current asking price. Guehi has less than 12 months to run on his contract at Selhurst Park.
Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo have deputised at centre-back previously and Slot insists he has ‘numerous options that can play there’ if required.
“We have numerous options that can play there,” Slot said at his pre-match conference ahead of Sunday’s Community Shield.
“But as I always say, it’s the same boring answer as with players that we may bring in or not – I am really happy with the players that we have and we have numerous players that can play in that position.”
However, the Dutchman did insist that Liverpool are always exploring the market for reinforcements.
“I think we have a lot of attacking power in our team. When I think about Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa, Hugo Ekitike, Mo Salah, Jeremie Frimpong who can play as a right-winger, Florian Wirtz who can play as a left-winger – I already feel I have a lot of attacking options in my current squad.
“But, as always as a club, we are always looking at the chances in the market but that can also be in the midfield or the last line.”
