Tigres’ Lizbeth Ovalle has been named as the winner of the Marta award, at The Best FIFA Football Awards 2025.
The Marta award, named after the Brazil legend and introduced to the awards last year, recognises the best goal scored across the women’s game.
It is the equivalent of the men’s Puskas award, which recognises the most aesthetically significant, or “most beautiful”, goal of the calendar year. Fittingly, the first award was won by Marta herself in 2024.
Ovalle has claimed the honour after a sensational scorpion kick, scored for Tigres against Guadalajara in March. With the game goalless, Ovalle acrobatically diverted an in-swinging cross into the far corner, in a moment of magic that has earned her the Marta award.
We’re not going to argue with that.
This goal is a thing of beauty.
