Report claims Chelsea have ‘reignited’ their interest in Ronaldo

Just as the monotonous murmurs surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo’s future appeared to be dying down, the Ronaldo rumour mill has started up once again.

Despite a number of Europe’s elite having distanced themselves from making a move for the Manchester United forward, reports across the continent continue to suggest the star’s future is far from settled.

Sport are the latest to offer their take on Ronaldo’s future, claiming Chelsea are back in what could conceivably be a one-horse race.

The west Londoners were linked with the 37-year-old earlier in the summer as new owner Todd Boehly looked to make a statement signing in his first summer in power.

The exits of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner have left the Blues short at centre-forward, but the consensus was that Thomas Tuchel was not interested in adding the five-time Ballon d’Or winner to his ranks.

However, the reports from Spain claim Chelsea have reevaluated that stance with Tuchel far from convinced that Armando Broja can lead his line this season.

Chelsea are one of a short supply of clubs capable of affording Ronaldo, but Sport are reporting that the Blues do not want to pay a transfer fee for the star.

Given United’s continued insistence that Ronaldo is not for sale and the Portugal captain’s reported reluctance to give up the final year of a lucrative contract – a compromise of some sort would need to be reached…if the report is true at all.
