Premier League rivals battle to sign Chelsea starlet as bid sent

Two Premier League clubs are reportedly battling it out to sign Tyrique George on loan from Chelsea in the January transfer window.

The teenager, who turns 20 next week, has only featured four times off the bench in the Premier League this season and is in search of minutes elsewhere.

The Blues have been looking to offload the winger since the summer. A £22 million deal with Fulham fell through on Deadline Day.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Everton are “currently leading the race” to sign George after sending a loan proposal with an option to buy. They are in the market for a wide attacker after Jack Grealish was ruled out for the rest of the season with an injury.

“Talks are underway” between the Toffees and Chelsea amid interest from numerous clubs in the youngster.

Sky Sports News report that Sunderland are one of the teams “showing and interest” in George, with clubs from Spain, France and Italy also wanting to sign him.

Following Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Brighton, Everton boss David Moyes refused to comment on their approach for George, but he did say there is a possibility they will make a late signing before the window closes on Monday.

“Yes I do [think there’s a chance],” he said. “But don’t have a big headline saying he thinks it’s coming because it might not and then we disappoint people.

“We’re always better keeping you under the radar, rather than saying yes.”
