Our Premier League Awards honour the best – and worst – of the weekend’s action, featuring Liverpool’s statement win and a West Ham starlet shining.
Moment of the Week
Is this the week the title race irreversibly shifted in Liverpool’s direction?
Arne Slot’s side dropped points in midweek to feel the pressure heading into the weekend, but a slip from Arsenal at home to West Ham gave the Reds a free hit at the Etihad.
Liverpool went out and sent a statement with a 2-0 win over the defending champions, securing their first league win at Manchester City since 2015.
It was far from perfect from the league leaders, but a performance befitting of champions-elect. Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai got the goals to extend Liverpool’s lead to 11 points. Slot’s machine will be tough to catch from here.
Player of the Week
West Ham have a long history of producing top talent and Oliver Scarles took his chance in Graham Potter’s side this weekend. The 19-year-old was handed a daunting full debut at Arsenal, but produced a standout display as the Hammers earned an upset 1-0 win.
Ollie Scarles' 7 interceptions against Arsenal is the most by any Premier League player in an away game this season ๐

Scarles locked down the threat of Ethan Nwaneri and Raheem Sterling, becoming the first Premier League player to record 6+ interceptions and 6+ tackles in a Premier League game for more than a year. He led his West Ham teammates for touches, interceptions, tackles, recoveries and passes into the final third in a huge display. The future’s bright.
Goal of the Week
This is an utterly filthy finish from Joao Pedro.
Brighton beat Southampton with ease at the weekend to push the struggling Saints ever closer to the Premier League’s trap door. Pedro kicked off the 4-0 rout for the Seagulls with a cheeky chipped effort over Aaron Ramsdale. A touch of flair from the Brazilian.

An honourable mention for this Bryan Mbeumo beauty. It’s 15 league goals and counting for the Brentford winger, who really should star getting his flowers.

Stat of the Week
Is Marcus Rashford getting back to his best?
After a torrid time at Manchester United, the forward has made an immediate impact since joining Aston Villa on loan. Two assists off the bench this weekend continued a strong start in the Midlands.
1 – Since his debut for Aston Villa, Marcus Rashford has created the most big chances in the Premier League (4). He also has the joint-most assists (2) and has made the joint-most dribbles (15). Rejuvenated. pic.twitter.com/tiLPzooeYU

Tweet of the Week
Aston Villa fans are certainly enjoying their marquee new recruits, but Glenn Whelan was taking no s*** after catching strays from a fan reflecting (a little disrespectfully) on the club’s rise in recent seasons.
Donโt forget Glenn Whelan @35 helped pull your club from one of its darkest daysโฆ enjoy Asensio Rogers and Rashford and thank me later gimp https://t.co/4TLRWU8isk
