Pep Guardiola believes Man City need to be more consistent if they are to challenge Arsenal for the Premier League title.Â
His side came from behind to beat Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield on Sunday night to keep themselves within six points of the table-topping Gunners.
While it kept alive their hopes of regaining the trophy, it was only City’s second league win in 2026.
Pep Guardiola admits Man City ‘not consistent’ enough to win Premier League title
Asked at his pre-match press conference if his players can mount a serious title challenge, Guardiola responded: “We have done really good things. I have had the feeling for many, many months but we are not consistent enough. Okay, we controlled many aspects to win the games more or less.
“[Against Liverpool] we equalised the game with a deflected cross from Rayan Cherki, and after some intelligent play then we scored from there, from a deflection.
“The we had an incredible save from Giorgio [Donnarumma]. That is football.”
He continued: “It will happen if we do what we need to do. I want to deserve the three points. I want us to play the way we have to play to stay there.”
Man City can reduce the gap to Arsenal to three points if they beat Fulham at home on Wednesday, with the north London outft facing Brentford on Thursday.
“Every time over the past weeks and months when I go before the game for an interview always if you lose you are losing everything and are going to disappear from the planet Earth and stuff. So what I am saying is what do you have to do to beat Fulham?”
