Norgaard happy as ‘important weapon’ helps Arsenal past Portsmouth

Christian Norgaard was pleased after Arsenal’s set-piece threat helped the club to a comeback win at Portsmouth in the FA Cup third round.

Arsenal fell behind inside three minutes to the second-tier side, but turned the game around to run out 4-1 winners at Fratton Park.

Set-pieces were again important, as Arsenal scored three times from dead-ball deliveries. An own goal brought the sides level, before Gabriel Martinelli scored a hat-trick for the North Londoners.

It’s the third time this season that Arsenal have scored 2+ goals from set pieces in a single fixture, more than any other Premier League team.

Norgaard, who helped bundle in the equaliser for the Gunners, admitted it’s something the club are keen to specialise in.

“In the beginning they were than us and could have gone up twice but then when got the momentum. In the second half we could have made more than four goals,” Norgaard said, speaking to TNT Sport.

“The start wasn’t good enough. I think we were as prepared as we could have been. In this weather and conditions it is never easy in the cup games and credit to Portsmouth.

“It’s important in our games but it’s important in any team,” he added when discussing Arsenal’s set-piece threat.

“Of course we emphasise it a lot but it’s a really important part of our game and it’s an important weapon of ours. We will keep developing an using it when we need it.”
