Former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeneß has told Newcastle United that new signing Nick Woltemade is not worth the potential €90m (£79m) transfer fee.
Bayern Munich were heavily linked with signing the Germany international earlier this summer, but were unable to agree a deal with Bundesliga rivals Stuttgart.
Woltemade was in demand after a breakout season in 2024/25, in which he scored 17 goals in all competitions and led Stuttgart to DFB-Pokal success.
The 6ft 6in striker then shone at this summer’s u-21 European Championship, scoring six goals to win the Golden Boot.

Newcastle secured the signing of Woltemade late in the transfer window as the Magpies sought a replacement for Alexander Isak.
Hoeneß believes Bayern were right not to enter a bidding war and insists Newcastle have overpaid for the 23-year-old. He said the forward’s price tag became inflated as a result of the influx of Saudi Arabian money in football.
“He [Woltemade] isn’t worth the 90 million,” he told Sport1 Dopa..
That only happened because of the money flowing from Saudi Arabia.”
