David Moyes is not worried about James Garner’s future at Everton as the midfielder enters the final six months of his contract.Â
The 24-year-old played a pivotal role in the Toffees’ win over his former club, Nottingham Forest, at the City Ground on Tuesday night, scoring the opener before setting up Thierno Barry late on.
It was only Garner’s 11th goal involvement since joining the club from Manchester United in a deal worth up to £15 million in 2022.
The Birkenhead native can agree a pre-contract with clubs abroad from Thursday, 1 January, and he could leave on a free transfer in the summer.
Moyes ‘comfortable’ about Everton star Garner’s uncertain future
Moyes, though, is relaxed about the situation ahead of the transfer window opening up for the winter.
“I am quite comfortable,” he said after the Forest win. “I feel quite comfortable at the situation. He has hugely developed as an individual. When I came, I saw a boy but now I see someone becoming a leader.
“He is growing up and acting like a real midfielder. He is happy to come up against the best players. He looked as good as anybody tonight.”
Garner spent 18 months on loan with Forest, helping the Midlands outfit earn promotion to the Premier League via the Championship playoffs in 2022. He joined Everton that summer and has since gone on to make 105 appearances in all competitions.
