Mikel Arteta believes that Viktor Gyokeres is an “incredible striker” and revealed he is a “nightmare to face in training” for his players.
The Sweden international has endured a tough start to life at the Emirates Stadium since his £63.5 million move from Sporting CP in the summer transfer window.
Gyokeres appeared to lack the quality to lead the frontline of a title-challenging team and found goals hard to come by in the first half of the season.
But the 27-year-old has scored four goals in his last four Premier League games, taking up to ten for the campaign, which puts him fifth in the scoring charts.
Mikel Arteta hails ‘incredible’ Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres
“One thing leads to another,” Arteta said on Gyokeres’ recent form ahead of this Sunday’s clashw ith Chelsea at home. “The performances are good, you understand the games, the performances better, the league better and your teammates better.
“We have always known about his quality. He is an incredible striker. He just needs to understand the team and the league better. We are in the right trajectory.
“The demand he puts on himself and expectations to help his team is big. My players tell me he is a nightmare to face in training and that’s always a good sign of how good a player is.”
