Bryan Mbeumo has backed Manchester United to challenge at the top of the Premier League after beating Brighton 4-2 at Old Trafford.
Ruben Amorim’s side secured their third consecutive win in the Premier League after an entertaining affair against the Seagulls. Matheus Cunha opened the scoring with his first goal for the club, before Casemiro’s deflected strike doubled the lead.
Mbeumo made it three with a finish inside the near post, as the Red Devils played with increased confidence.
However, Brighton fought back into the game. Danny Welbeck whipped in a free-kick against his former side to reduce the deficit, before Ferdi Kadioglu tested Senne Lammens with a fierce drive. The Seagulls snatched a second goal to set up a nervy finish, as substitute Charalampos Kostoulas glanced a header past Lammens.
But United refused to falter and sealed the win moments later. Mbeumo’s second of the night was crashed in off the crossbar to secure the points.
Speaking to Sky Sports at full-time, Mbeumo reflected on his two goals and backed Manchester United – who rose to fourth temporarily at least – to challenge for the ‘best places’ in the Premier League
“Honestly so good. The atmosphere is crazy here. The fans are unbelievable and it’s always good to score goals and especially here.
“I enjoy it a lot here. It hasn’t been easy at the start. It’s a new environment, a new expectation but I think with the automatism, with the link up with the team, I think everything is going the right way.
“The work we put in, the effort, the togetherness we give on the pitch is key and after we try to stick to the plan and we try to play as best as possible.
“I like the challenges, came here to a big club and we want to fight for the best places.”
