Pochettino claims Chelsea owners still back him despite poor form

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino believes he retains the backing of the club’s owners despite poor results.

The Blues have conceded eight goals in their last two Premier League games, losing 4-2 to Wolves and 4-1 to Liverpool in successive matches.

The west London outfit sit 11th in the table having lost ten league games this season, putting the Argentine’s position as manager under considerable pressure.

When asked if still has the trust of the Chelsea hierarchy, Pochettino responded in the affirmative, revealing he is in daily contact with the owners and sporting directors, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley.

“I haven’t anything in another way,” Pochettino said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s FA Cup replay against Aston Villa.

“I received very good texts from them. I think we are all together in this and that’s important. Of course I am in contact with them and the sporting director every day.”

On the team’s recent form, Pochettino added: “The way that we lose the game [to Wolves] and the way we performed was not not the plan of how we wanted to compete.

“We need to keep going because I think we cannot lose the focus from two defeats. Of course we are disappointed but know in football these things can happen.

“At Chelsea we are doing different things from the past. To be consistent is the most difficult thing now.”
