Maresca reveals key Chelsea trio struggling with injuries

Enzo Maresca has revealed that Cole Palmer, Joao Pedro and Moises Caicedo are all managing injuries at Chelsea.

Palmer was substituted early on in the 2-1 defeat at Manchester United on Saturday, with the midfielder having played just 145 minutes of Premier League football this season.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of facing Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup, Maresca revealed that Chelsea’s medical staff are considering surgery to correct Palmer’s groin issue.

However, the Italian also said that Palmer is not the only key figure managing an injury. He confirmed both Moises Caicedo and Joao Pedro are dealing with issues despite their prominent role in Chelsea’s season so far.

“Cole is one, and then we have some players who have had problems for a long time like Moises Caicedo and Joao Pedro. They are trying to manage it a little bit themselves, but then the rest are okay.

“[Benoit Badiashile and Romeo Lavia] will not be back for this game, unfortunately. They both took part in the session yesterday, which is good news, and hopefully they can be available soon.”
