Manchester United have confirmed that they have struck a deal with Ajax regarding the transfer of Daley Blind.
The Dutchman moved to Manchester United back in 2014, becoming one of the first signings under Louis van Gaal, after the duo had worked together at the 2014 World Cup.
He initially started his United career as a holding midfielder, but during his second season at the club, van Gaal made the surprise decision to partner him with Chris Smalling as a centre-back.
Despite a number of raised eyebrows at the decision due to a perceived lack of height, strength and pace, Blind actually did a pretty decent job, making 56 appearances that season.
Since then though, his fortunes have not improved, with Jose Mourinho’s arrival at the club in 2016 meaning his first team opportunities have dwindled, making just 17 appearances last season.
Blind was left out of the Manchester United squad that travelled to the USA on Sunday for their pre-season tour, and now the club have confirmed they have reached a deal for his transfer

While the Red Devils kept their statement short, it is thought that the deal to take Blind back to Ajax is worth an initial £14 million, with a potential to rise to £18.1m.
