Manchester City kick off their 2025-26 Premier League campaign on Saturday evening with a trip to Molineux to face Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The fixture pits Pep Guardiola’s significantly revamped side against a Wolves team looking to make a strong start to the season under Vitor Pereira.
After an underwhelming third-place finish last term, City are determined to lay down an early marker in their bid to reclaim the Premier League title. However, they face a stern opening test against a resilient Wolves outfit, who will be looking to leverage their formidable home support to challenge a City squad still bedding in a number of new faces.
Manchester City team news
Pep Guardiola takes a much-changed Manchester City squad into the new season, aiming to bounce back from a rare trophy-less campaign. Following the high-profile departures of club stalwarts Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker, several new faces are in line for their competitive debuts at Molineux.
Midfielder Tijjani Reijnders and winger Rayan Cherki are expected to feature, while left-back Rayan Aït-Nouri could make his first appearance against his former club.
Guardiola has received a major fitness boost ahead of the opener, with both Phil Foden and Rodri passed fit for selection after shaking off minor pre-season issues. However, City will be without Josko Gvardiol (knock) and Savinho (knee), who have both been ruled out with injuries.
Manuel Akanji and Rúben Dias are set to anchor the defence in their absence, while Erling Haaland will lead the line, likely supported by the creative talents of Foden and the debuting Cherki.
Manchester City predicted lineup
Possible Manchester City starting XI: Ederson; Lewis, Dias, Akanji, Aït-Nouri; Rodri, Cherki, Foden, Doku; Marmoush, Haaland.
