Manchester City want to seal the signings of Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki in the next few days.
Pep Guardiola’s recruitment team are pushing to sign the duo in time for this month’s Club World Cup. An early 10-day transfer window opened on Sunday, permitting clubs to make transfers and register new players.
The transfer window period was brought in ahead of this summer’s Club World Cup, in which City are competing.
Reijnders has been identified as the leading target for Guardiola. The AC Milan midfielder was named as Serie A’s Best Midfielder in 2024/25 despite the Italian side labouring to an eighth-place finish.
The Netherlands international ended the campaign with 15 goals in 54 appearances across all competitions.
Manchester City confident on Cherki deal
City are also confident of winning a competitive race for Lyon winger Cherki. Fabrizio Romano has revealed that talks are advanced over a deal that will be worth in the region of €30m.

The 21-year-old, who received a maiden France call-up this month, was named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Season and earned the division’s Best Dribbler award.
Cherki led both Ligue 1 and the Europa League for assists provided. The Frenchman’s relatively low release clause is viewed as an ideal market opportunity for City in the club’s quest to replace Kevin De Bruyne’s creativity.
City kick-off their Club World Cup campaign against Morocco’s Wydad AC on June 18th before facing Al-Ain, of the UAE, and Juventus in the group stage.
