Man United and Liverpool reluctant to meet Mateus Mane fee

Manchester United and Liverpool will not meet Wolves’ £50m asking price for Mateus Mane this summer.

Mane is on the radar of the Premier League’s top teams after impressing in a struggling side this season. The 18-year-old has made 17 appearances in the Premier League this season, scoring twice and providing an assist.

Wolves are aware of growing interest in the teenager and have put a £50m asking price on Mane.

That’s a fee that neither Manchester United or Liverpool will meet, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, with both clubs deeming Mane ‘too raw and unproven to warrant such a high fee’.

Both are expected to test Wolves’ resolve with bids, with the hope that an increasingly inevitable relegation can reduce the asking price. Wolves are currently 17 points from safety with just 10 games remaining.

Wolves want Mane to remain at the club despite the probability of Championship football next season, believing a regular campaign of first-team football will help accelerate his development. Mane joined Wolves from the Rochdale academy in 2024.

  1. Man. Utd waste more money than Mane’s transfer fee with their policy of hiring unproven Prem league managers on big-money contracts and paying them off early in the contract. They should look at the bargain they stole off Wolves in Cunha. £50 million fee means you’re paying for potential but if Mane plays regularly in Man. Utd’s team the price would soon look cheap.
