Ruben Loftus-Cheek says he has ‘studied’ former Chelsea great Frank Lampard, and hopes to emulate his reputation as a goalscoring midfielder.
The 23-year-old is currently enjoying the best goal-scoring season of his career so far, having scored nine goals in all competitions for Maurizio Sarri’s side.
Chelsea legend Lampard developed a reputation as one of the best goal-scoring midfielders of his generation, having left Stamford Bridge as the club’s all-time top scorer with 211 goals following 13 years in West London.
Loftus-Cheek admitted that he has studied Lampard as he looks to develop his own game, admitting he aspires to become a player who can score regularly from midfield.
“He was obviously the best at that,” RLC told the media ahead of tonight’s Europa League game against Eintracht Frankfurt.
“I studied him a lot in the Academy with my coaches, how he arrived in the box and his timing to get in the box and score goals. It was something I aspire to be like that as a midfielder who has the ability to score goals.
“I would like to be a player who can score a lot in a Premier League season. That’s something I will look to improve on.”
