Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest – Match Preview

Liverpool will be searching for another stellar performance this weekend as they look to preserve their perfect run, having won all three games and are yet to concede a goal in the Premier League thus far.

Arne Slot has only made one change to his starting eleven in his three games in charge and despite his tenure still very much being in its infancy, it suggests that the Dutchman doesn’t like to make wholesale changes and trusts his core group of players.

A favourable run of fixtures has meant Nottingham Forest have begun their campaign undefeated but Saturday’s trip to Anfield will be their hardest test yet.

It has been an unstoppable start to the season for Liverpool as they have swept aside every team in their wake and have looked impenetrable at the back.

The red half of Merseyside made light work of Manchester United at Old Trafford as Arne Slot’s men comfortably dispatched of the Red Devils in a 3-0 humbling prior to the international break.

Luis Diaz has looked electric under the stewardship of Slot and the Colombian bagged a brace to give his team control.

Mo Salah assisted Luis Diaz twice in the first period and in the second half it was the Egyptian’s turn to take the plaudits as he caught Andre Onana off guard with an adroit finish.

Salah’s three goal contributions meant the prolific winger had recorded ten goals or assists in his last five league appearances at Old Trafford.

That derby triumph alongside the pair of 2-0 wins over Ipswich Town and Brentford has signified a phenomenal beginning to Slot’s tenure in England with the transition in the dugout looking seamless.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s players have gone about their business rather inconspicuously, as they are one of only seven teams who remain unbeaten in the Premier League.

Both their games at the City Ground have followed an almost identical pattern, as they both ended 1-1 with Chris Wood putting his team in front before Bournemouth and Wolves restored parity.

Forest’s win came away at Southampton, with Morgan Gibbs-White, who recently made his senior England debut against the Republic of Ireland, tapping in the all-important goal.

The Reds hailing from Nottingham will be looking to cause an upset at Anfield and taste victory at the historic venue for the first time since 1978.

Darwin Nunez’s dramatic stoppage time header broke Forest’s hearts last time out, with the Nottingham based club feeling aggrieved with the controversial nature of the moments leading up to the winner.

Forest had possession when play was paused due to Ibrahima Konate going down with a head injury, but the game got back underway with Liverpool ‘keeper Caoimhin Kelleher having the ball at his feet and shortly after drama ensued.

Nunez was a second half substitute for Jurgen Klopp’s team and the Uruguayan’s vital connection on the end of a deep cross by Alexis Mac Allister sparked pandemonium in the away end behind Matz Sels’ goal.

That 99th minute goal was monumental for Liverpool as it sent them four points clear at the top of the Premier League.
