Liverpool are set to be the ‘frontrunners’ in a race to sign Mason Mount this summer.
The England international has just over 12 months remaining on his Chelsea contract and has already turned down the offer of an extension.
There is said to be a ‘stand-off’ between the two parties, with Mount said to want to treble his £80,000-a-week salary in order to move him in line with other senior players at the club.
Such a situation has unsurprisingly alerted a number of sides, with the Mail reporting that Liverpool are the ‘frontrunners’ to land his signature.
The report says that Jurgen Klopp is an admirer of the 24-year-old, with Liverpool expected to undergo an overhaul of what has been a massively criticised midfield department this season.
While Chelsea are keen to keep Mount at the club, they would be open to selling him if they can not solve their contractual differences to prevent him from leaving for free in 2024.
The Telegraph reported earlier this week that Manchester United and Manchester City are also interested in signing the Chelsea academy graduate.
As for Liverpool, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are expected to leave, with the Reds having also been linked with Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham and Wolves’ Matheus Nunes.
