Liverpool consider Leeds centre-back as Konate replacement

Liverpool are reportedly considering a move for Leeds United centre-back Jaka Bijol as a potential replacement for Ibrahima Konate.

Konate’s contract at Liverpool expires in the summer and there has been no progress on a potential extension.

Real Madrid are among the clubs understood to be keen to sign the France international as a free agent. Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked as Konate considers his options.

Liverpool have already agreed a deal to sign Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet, though further centre-back signings are being sought.

Football Transfers claim that Bijol is a player on the Reds’ radar. The Slovenian is seen as a potential replacement for Konate, after an impressive adaptation to the Premier League. Bijol signed for Leeds from Udinese last summer and has stood out for his aerial presence at Elland Road.

At 27, and with experience of English football, the defender could be sought as a readymade option, as the 20-year-old Jacquet adapts to the Premier League. Leeds signed Bijol for a fee of around £18m and would demand a substantial profit to consider his sale.
