Arne Slot has said he is keen to see more of a partnership between Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak at Liverpool.
The forwards each arrived at Anfield in the summer but started together for just the second time in the midweek win at Inter Milan.
Though there was little evidence of an understanding at the San Siro, Slot has said it is an option he is keen to experiment further with in the future.
He is confident that the two forwards can play together and insists he saw ‘promising things’ as Liverpool opted for a new-look formation at Inter.
“The more they play together they more they will adapt to each other and the better they will cooperate,” the Liverpool manager said ahead of facing Brighton tomorrow.
“I saw promising things from the both of them, it’s only the second time they’ve played together. We will see more of them playing together in the future.
“Alex [Isak] got a knock in the first half. Let’s see how he recovers from that today and if he is able to start tomorrow.”
Liverpool will bid to get their league campaign back on track after consecutive draws with promoted sides in recent weeks. The Reds showed improvement to beat Inter Milan in Italy in midweek and Slot said his underperforming side have shown progress in recent weeks.
“Apart from being unbeaten, we have shown we have been a team in the last four games that is difficult to beat and create chances against.
“The team has worked really hard, put a lot of effort in, been a bit unlucky in the results but showed great resilience. Four games in 10 days with not a lot of players available.
“It’s a compliment to the players, how they managed to get some results and the effort hey put in.”
