‘We will fight’ – Klopp insists Liverpool have ‘no self-pity’ despite ‘difficult’ injury situation

Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool ‘will fight’ to overcome their ‘difficult’ injury situation and says his side will have ‘no self-pity’ ahead of this weekend’s crucial clash with league leaders Leicester at Anfield.

The Premier League champions have seen their squad decimated by a series of absences over the past fortnight, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson and Joe Gomez amongst those to pick up injuries, the latter expected to miss the majority of the season after undergoing knee surgery.

The trio have joined the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the treatment table, whilst Mohamed Salah will also miss this weekend’s clash after testing positive for Covid-19 during the international break.

Assessments will be made on the fitness of Thiago and Fabinho ahead of the clash, with Klopp admitting his side’s increasing injury list ‘makes it tricky’ ahead of the visit of Brendan Rodgers’ in-form side.

“We just take it game by game,” Klopp said at his pre-match press conference.

“There’s no season when you don’t have injury problems.

“It is always the same, it’s slightly different in that a lot of players in the same position have got injured and seriously injured, which makes it tricky.

“Nobody here feels self-pity or sorry for ourselves, it’s just the situation. At the moment it hits you but the next moment you are in the solution process.

“We have players available and as long as we have 11 players we will fight for three points with all we have.”

Klopp insists he remains confident in Liverpool’s ability to overcome a ‘difficult situation’ despite their depleted options, and suggested his side have regularly proven they can rise to the challenge in recent seasons.

“I don’t think my players have to prove anything we always handle difficult situations well,” he added.

“Obviously nobody is happy with my answers which is why you constantly ask the same questions.

“We will fight with all we have and that means if the problems become bigger we will get closer. If somebody thinks we will give up before the game because some of our best players or most important players are not available I cannot help him.

“We have to accept the situation and use it.”
