Joe Gomez has said that Takumi Minamino is an ‘incredible addition’ to Liverpool’s title-chasing side, praising his ‘tenacity’ and ‘desire to press’.
Even before the January transfer window was open, Liverpool announced their agreement to sign the Japan international from RB Salzburg, the forward having impressed alongside Erling Haaland for the Austrian side, including in their Champions League game at Anfield back in October, scoring and assisting in a 4-3 defeat.
Impressively, the runaway Premier League leaders were able to capitalise on a release clause of just £7.25 million to steal a march on a whole host of suitors to land the 25-year-old, who is able to play in any position across the front line.
The versatile forward is yet to start a league game for Jurgen Klopp’s side, with Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino forming a feared front three, though Reds defender Joe Gomez has praised the quality of his new teammate.
“He’s a happy, positive guy. He’s got a nice aura to him,” Gomez told Soccer AM.
“To be fair, everyone was aware of him from when we played him, the effect he had. When he came to Anfield, how well he did and how well he took the game.
“He has a great desire to press and adapt to our style of play. The gaffer wants us to play a certain way and he has that tenacity about him, to want to get about and put pressure on. An unbelievable addition.”
