Florian Wirtz says he is “very happy” to have scored his first goal for Liverpool to help his side beat Wolves at home in the Premier League.Â
The attacking midfielder netted what turned out to be the winner, doubling the Reds’ lead after Ryan Gravenberch put the hosts ahead in the first half.
Wolves pulled one back early in the second half through Santiago Bueno as Liverpool conceded from a set piece yet again, but they managed to hold on for a fourth consecutive win in all competitions.
Florian Wirtz relieved as first goal seals Liverpool win over WolvesÂ
“It was very nice the feeling on the pitch with the fans around. I was very happy and I still am,” Wirtz said after the final whistle.
“I was confident that I would score one day. I wanted to start earlier scoring and assisting but it was like this and I have to accept it. I just know that it will come and I try to keep going like that.”
Liverpool should have coasted to victory but let Wolves back into the game after the interval and were somewhat fortunate the Midlands did not find an equaliser.
“We played a brilliant first half,” Wirtz added. “We lost the game and got it back. Everyone was working hard. In the last 20 minutes, we made it a bit difficult. I cannot explain why. We have to change that.
“That’s how we want to do it. We want to be there and be on top of the table. It’s not been an easy start for us but we’re doing better and getting the points.”
