Everton set to launch £30m move for Chelsea star

Everton are set to launch a £30m bid to sign Chelsea forward Liam Delap this summer.

Delap has struggled to make an impact during a difficult debut season at Stamford Bridge, following his £30m arrival from Ipswich Town. The 23-year-old has started just nine games in the Premier League and has scored one goal, in an underwhelming spell in West London.

Chelsea are believed to be considering his future, with both permanent and loan exits being discussed internally. Everton, who had expressed interest in Delap prior to his move to Chelsea, have now put the player at the top of their striker shortlist.

TEAMtalk are reporting that Everton will make a £30m offer for Delap at the end of the campaign, with optimism that Chelsea will accept a proposal that recoups their investment.

The Toffees want to bring in a reliable goalscorer amid Thierno Barry and Beto’s unconvincing performances this season. Combined, that duo have scored just eight Premier League goals this season, while no Everton player has managed more than five.

Only Wolves, Sunderland and Nottingham Forest have scored fewer goals than the Blues this season.

Everton will hope Delap can follow a similar path to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who swapped Chelsea for Merseyside last summer.

The 27-year-old has thrived amid regular football at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, having failed to earn a regular role in the capital.
