Egypt aim to reach the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final tonight when the record seven-time winners face Senegal in the semi-finals.
It’s a rematch of the 2021 final, when Egypt lost on penalties to the West African outfit. Egypt are bidding to end a 13-year wait for AFCON success and eliminated holders Ivory Coast 3-2 in an entertaining last-eight tie.
The Pharaohs and Senegal are both unbeaten in the tournament to date, winning four of their five fixtures, with one draw. Senegal are currently the second-ranked team in Africa by FIFA, behind host nation Morocco, with Egypt fourth.
Egypt team news
Hossam Hassan will again be without the services of defender Mohamed Hamdi, who missed the quarter-final win over Ivory Coast with a knee injury. Hamdi picked up the issue against Benin in the Round of 16 and has not recovered in time to feature tonight.
Egypt will again be reliant on an all-start forward line featuring Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and Manchester City striker Omar Marmoush. The two players have scored six goals between them at the tournament so far, with both on target in the aforementioned victory over holders Ivory Coast.
Salah is now just two goals from equalling the record for the most goals for the national team. The current landmark is held by head coach Hassan. One more goal will also see Salah level Hassan El-Shazly’s record for most AFCON goals for his nation.
