David Raya reached a milestone this week after recording his 50th clean sheet for Arsenal.
Raya reached a half-century of clean sheets for Arsenal following the club’s 3-0 win over Slavia Prague in the Champions League.
The Spanish shot-stopper has taken just 110 starts to reach that figure, faster than any goalkeeper in Arsenal history. The previous record holder was Jimmy Ashcroft, who reached 50 clean sheets in 114 starts in 1903.
Raya’s record arrived as Arsenal matched a club record of eight consecutive clean sheets with the win over the Czech champions.
That run has equalled a club record also set 122 years ago, when Ashcroft was in goal for the Gunners in 1903. Raya has been in goal for seven of those games, becoming the first Arsenal goalkeeper since David Seaman in 2002 to record seven successive clean sheets.
