Cristiano Ronaldo has offered his condolences following the tragic passing of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva.Â
The siblings perished in a car accident in northwestern Spain after one of the vehicle’s tires burst, causing it to leave the road before bursting into flames.
Jota, aged 28, had recently married his fiancé, Rute Cardoso, and played alongside Ronaldo last month as Portugal beat Spain to win the UEFA Nations League.

Ronaldo was, like everyone else, left shocked by the news, posting that “it doesn’t make sense”.
“Just now we were together in the National Team, just now you had gotten married,” the Al-Nassr striker said.
“To your family, your wife, and your children, I send my condolences and wish them all the strength in the world.
“I know you will always be with them. Rest in Peace, Diogo and Andre. We will all miss you.”

Jota was a member of the Portugal squad when they first won the Nations League in 2019, although he did not make an appearance. He made his international debut in November of that year, coming on as a substitute for Ronaldo in a 6-0 win over Lithuania.
The former Wolves star went on to win 43 caps, scoring 14 goals, and played at Euro 2020 and Euro 2024. He missed out on the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar due to injury.Â
Jota joined Liverpool from Wolves in a £41 million transfer in 2020. He scored 65 goals in 182 in all competitions, winning the Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup. He came on as a substitute in the Uefa Champions League in 2022, which the Reds lost to Real Madrid.
