Manchester United have had a myriad of problems during a testing campaign this season.
Sunday saw the holders exit the FA Cup, losing at home to Fulham on penalties. In the Premier League, the Red Devils are 14th in the table and closer to the relegation places than leaders Liverpool.
Goals have been an issue for Ruben Amorim’s side, with the club’s forwards having failed to fire. Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee were signed for a combined sum of £108m but have mustered just five league goals between them.
Hojlund has gone backwards following a promising start to his career at Old Trafford. The Denmark international scored 16 goals in all competitions last season but has looked short of confidence throughout the campaign. A blank against Fulham extended his goalless run to 18 games in all competitions.
In recent games, Amorim has handed opportunity to Chido Obi in search of spark. The highly-rated teenager was signed from Arsenal in the summer and boasts a prolific record at youth level. Last season, Obi was the leading scorer in the u-18 Premier League.
The 17-year-old was lively in a cameo from the bench against Fulham and an astonishing stat has emerged. Obi had three big chances in his 52 minutes on the pitch, as many as Hojlund has had in 22 Premier League games in 2024/25.
Perhaps it’s time to give the teenager his chance.
Chido Obi had 3 big chances in 52 minutes today. For comparison, Rasmus Højlund has had 3 big chances in 22 Premier League matches this season.
