Chelsea XI vs Leeds United – Predicted lineup and team news

Chelsea travel to Elland Road on Wednesday looking to extend their seven-match unbeaten run in the Premier League.

Enzo Maresca’s side showed resilience to earn a 1-1 draw with 10 men against leaders Arsenal at the weekend. However, that result came at a cost. Key midfielder Moisés Caicedo received a red card and is now suspended for three matches.

Despite this, the Blues have been excellent on the road recently. In fact, they have won five of their last six away games in all competitions. Moreover, they have scored in all 10 of their away matches this season. Although manager Enzo Maresca has a poor personal record against Leeds—having lost both previous meetings—Chelsea will be confident of exploiting the hosts’ leaky defence.

Chelsea team news

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca confirms a significant boost ahead of the trip to Elland Road. Crucially, star playmaker Cole Palmer is fully fit and available to start. Palmer spent the draw against Arsenal on the bench but now feels ready to build his match fitness. Accordingly, Maresca plans to give him minutes until he can complete a full 90.

However, the Blues must cope without midfielder Moisés Caicedo due to suspension. Consequently, Maresca expects Andrey Santos to step into the midfield to partner Enzo Fernández.

In defence, the manager is likely to rest captain Reece James. The club manages his workload carefully after he started the last three matches. While James delivered a “virtuoso” performance in midfield against the Gunners, Maresca admitted he wants to “do the right thing” regarding his long-term fitness.

On a positive note, Benoit Badiashile is fit and likely to start in central defence. Unfortunately, the injury list remains otherwise unchanged. Romeo Lavia (thigh) and Dario Essugo (thigh) both remain out. They join long-term absentee Levi Colwill (knee) on the sidelines.
