Chelsea signing Garnacho ‘ready to start’ against Man United

Chelsea newcomer Alejandro Garnacho could be in line to make his first start for the club, against old side Manchester United no less.

The winger left Old Trafford towards end the of the transfer window for a fixed fee of £40 million. The deal reportedly includes a ten per cent sell-on clause.

Garnacho made his debut for the Blues last weekend when he came off the bench in their 2-2 draw away to Brentford. He lost sight of Fabio Carvalho as the attacker swooped in for a late equaliser.

The Argentina international was also subbed on for the midweek defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, but failed to make much of an impact, taking just one shot and creating zero chances as Chelsea lost 3-1.

Despite an inauspicious start to life at Stamford Bridge, Enzo Maresca praised his performances and suggested he could get the nod at left wing when they travel to face Man United on Saturday.

“In the last two games, he came on and did very good,” the Italian tactician told his pre-match press conference on Friday.

“We are happy with how he is adapting in our style and what we want for our winger. If he is ready to start tomorrow? I think he is ready to start.”

In other team news, Maresca says that Cole Palmer is “okay” after holding his groin late on during the Bayern game. Assessments still need to be made on the rest of the squad following their trip to Germany.

“We have a session now and flew back yesterday so we need to assess some of the players,” he said.

“There are some doubts but we haven’t done any sessions after Wednesday’s game so we will see after.”
