Serhou Guirassy made his mark in the Champions League this week with a hat-trick for Borussia Dortmund against Barcelona.
Guirassy scored three times to continue an excellent season in Europe, as Dortmund won 3-1 at the Westfalenstadion. It was not enough to save Dortmund, however, who exited the competition on aggregate after a first-leg defeat in Spain.
Guirassy, however, now leads the way in the race to finish as the Champions League’s top scorer. The Guinea international scored 13 goals in 14 games before Dortmund’s exit on Tuesday night. Prior to his hat-trick against Barcelona, the 29-year-old netted nine times in the league phase and added a tenth in the 3-0 away win at Sporting Lisbon.

It’s been an impressive debut campaign for Guirassy at Dortmund, following his €17m move from divisional rivals Stuttgart last summer. The forward has scored 28 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions for Niko Kovac’s side.
Despite Dortmund’s elimination, Guirassy will hope to end the campaign as the Champions League’s leading scorer. However, the three closest contenders to Guirassy all remain in the competition and will be hoping to overhaul the Dortmund striker.
