Bowen says West Ham draw ‘feels like a loss’

Jarrod Bowen has said West Ham’s 1-1 draw at Brighton ‘feels like a loss’ after conceding a stoppage-time equaliser.

West Ham’s winless run extended to four Premier League games after their clash at the Amex Stadium ended all square.

The Hammers had led through Bowen’s 73rd-minute opener but were pegged back late on as Georginio Rutter fired in a contentious equaliser. The ball struck Rutter’s arm in the build-up but VAR decided against disallowing the effort.

A win would have lifted Nuno Espirito Santo’s side out of the relegation places and Bowen admits their late setback is tough to stomach.

“I am gutted, it feels like loss,” the West Ham captain told Sky Sports.

“We did so much to get into the lead. We sat back too far and invited the pressure. You wanted to protect the lead but we got them too much. We got a point but it feels like a loss.

“We limited most of the games and they didn’t have lots to do in goal. The way the manager wants to play we have all bought into that.

“We got ourselves into a good position and nearly had more goals and then they managed to equalise. They have scored lots of late goals against us in the past.”
