Bournemouth have submitted an opening offer for Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic.
Andoni Iraola’s side have lodged a bid for the Serbian shot-stopper as the Cherries rival Sunderland for Petrovic’s signature.
The goalkeeper has returned to Chelsea after an impressive loan spell at Strasbourg, where he was named Player of the Season for the Ligue 1 side. Chelsea are now looking to sell Petrovic on a permanent deal with Enzo Maresca confident in his current goalkeeping options.
Sunderland had been close to agreeing a deal for Petrovic after the newly-promoted side submitted an offer in the region of €25m (£21.5m).
However, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the rival interest from Bournemouth who are ‘hopeful’ of winning the race. Negotiations between the teams are ongoing.

Bournemouth loaned Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea last season but the Spaniard has since departed the Vitality Stadium. The 30-year-old has completed a £5m permanent move from Chelsea to London rivals Arsenal.
Petrovic is one of several stars heading towards the exit door at Stamford Bridge. Christopher Nkunku is expected to leave after the signings of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap, while permanent exits are being sought for returning loanees Raheem Sterling, Joao Felix and Lesley Ugochukwu.
