Bayern Munich vs St. Pauli – Match preview and team news

  • Date: Saturday, 29th November.
  • Kick-off: 2:30pm BST.
  • Venue: Allianz Arena, Munich.

Bayern Munich team news

Alphonso Davies, the Canadian left-back, returned to team training following eight months sidelined with a serious ACL injury suffered in March. Though not yet at full match fitness, Davies is expected to feature in competitive action before the Bundesliga’s winter break, with December representing a realistic target for his return.

The good news arrives with Jamal Musiala’s continued recovery, with the German playmaker expected to make his comeback within four to eight weeks. Musiala suffered a broken leg and ankle injury during the Club World Cup last summer and has been progressively integrating back into training with the ball.

Serge Gnabry featured in Bayern’s Champions League encounter against Arsenal, returning from a minor knee injury to contribute to the match. Japan international Hiroki Ito has also completed full training sessions after recovering from a broken metatarsal, strengthening Bayern’s defensive options. He played a part against Freiburg last week as he works his way back to full fitness.

St. Pauli team news

St. Pauli arrive minus David Nemeth due to a groin issue, while midfielder Adam Dzwigala remains sidelined beyond a month due to muscle trouble. Arkadiusz Pyrka and Manolis Saliakas face late fitness checks and are likely to skip the Allianz Arena journey.

Marvin Schmitz, the 18-year-old attacker, is also sidelined due to an ankle injury and will be out until mid-December. St. Pauli have an otherwise relatively fit squad.

Form

Bayern Munich: WWDWL

Bayern Munich suffered its first defeat of the season on Wednesday, losing 3-1 to Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League league phase at the Emirates Stadium. However, their domestic form remains exceptional. The Bavarians currently lead the Bundesliga with 10 wins from their first 11 matches, accumulating 31 points and scoring an impressive 41 goals while conceding just eight.

St Pauli: LDLLL

St. Pauli finds itself in a desperate situation, currently occupying 16th place with just two wins, one draw, and eight losses from 11 matches.

The Hamburg outfit has suffered eight consecutive league defeats — their worst losing streak in the German top flight — accumulating only seven points and finding the net just nine times while conceding 21 goals.

Their only relief came in the DFB-Pokal when they knocked Hoffenheim out on penalties following a 2-2 draw in the second round.

Predicted lineups

Bayern Munich: Neuer; Boey, Upamecano, Kim, Bischof; Kimmich, Goretzka; Karl, Olise, Diaz; Kane

St. Pauli: Vasilj; Wahl, Smith, Mets; Pyrka, Fujita, Sands, Irvine, Oppie; Hountondji, Pereira Lage
