Aston Villa are starting to believe “anything” is possible after beating Premier League leaders Arsenal with a late winner.Â
Emi Buendia found the winning goal in the 95th minute of the game at Villa Park when he lifted the ball past David Raya following a goalmouth scramble.
The Villans started the game strongly as Matty Cash opened the scoring with a brilliant finish on the half hour mark.
Arsenal came out of the halftime break with intent, and their pressure paid off in the 52nd minute when Leandro Trossard levelled matters. But the Gunners were left to rue a number of missed chances when Buendia popped up late on with a decisive strike.
“Incredible,” the Argentine playmaker told TNT Sports after the full-time whistle. “In the last couple of weeks we have shown some character, coming from behind in games.
“Incredible character and fight against the team top of the table. We fight until the last minute, the last second.”
Cash added: “We knew it was going to be a really demanding game but I think we were fantastic. The crowd here really helped us. Right at the end was the craziest I’ve ever been!”
Aston Villa believe ‘anything’ possible following late Arsenal win
The victory takes Villa up to second in the Premier League table and closes the gap to Arsenal to just three points. Talk of a title push will only increase as the Midlands outfit continue to exhibit excellent form.
Asked what Villa can achieve this season, Cash replied: “Anything! We’ve got to take it game by game and keep working hard. At the minute we’re on a great run but we know it’s not even Christmas yet.”
