Aston Villa aim to negotiate Harvey Elliott get-out clause

Aston Villa are keen to negotiate a get-out clause and send Harvey Elliott back to Liverpool.

Elliott joined Aston Villa on loan from Liverpool in the summer, with an obligation to buy for around £35m, conditional on appearances.

However, the midfielder has failed to break into Unai Emery’s plans and has totalled just 97 minutes of Premier League football across three appearances.

Villa want to cancel the loan arrangement but would incur a penalty fine if Elliott is sent back to Anfield. There is no option for a recall from either side.

According to The Athletic, Villa are keen to negotiate a deal with Liverpool, having decided Elliott does not feature in their plans. Discussions are set to take place between the two clubs in a bid to find a compromise.

Elliott appeared primed for a big season in the summer, having starred as England won the u-21 European Championship. He was named Player of the Tournament during that triumph, having finished runner-up to Germany’s Nick Woltemade for the Golden Boot.

His move to the Midlands has not panned out as hoped with talks set to continue to find a resolution to his situation. Several Premier League sides, including former club Fulham and West Ham, were linked with Elliott in the summer window, prior to his loan to Villa Park.

Elliot has already represented Liverpool and Aston Villa this season, meaning he cannot represent a third Premier League club this season. His only options to find a new club in January is a league that begins in the new year, such as MLS or Scandinavia.
